Metal & combustables

I use copper wire to create burn marks in bisque firings. At the moment, this is my primary method, as I am limited to an electric kiln. I am keen to explore other firing techniques and have invesTIgated methods that could create interesting effects on a raw clay body.I have attempted to replicate a reduction environment with a saggar, but have found both the size and safety constraints too restrictive. For now, I continue to work with copper wire and enjoy the organic marks it produces. I often enhance these burn patterns with a white engobe, while leaving the clay body raw to showcase the texture of my trimming.

Here are some results from a recent firing.
